Capstone Entry 8
The final version of my Capstone paper has been approved. I have already printed out my hard copies. All I have left to do is make my CD versions and submit everything on Monday. :-) I can't believe I'm all done!
Capstone Entry 7
On Tuesday March 25th I went to school like any other day. I began answering an email from a parent and rearranging seating charts for each of my classes during homeroom... that was when my cell phone started vibrating like crazy. I never get phone calls in school, especially from my wife. When I answered her call, she said, "Husband, I think my water broke!". I said, "I'll be right home!!" I promptly left school and picked up my wife, and our baby girl, Sofia Elizabeth, was born at 12:39pm on March 25th. She was 6 lbs 10.2 oz, and 20 inches long, and she was born with a FULL head of hair. Definitely a life-changing experience. Thank you Amy for being so understanding and supportive during this time.
Capstone Entry 6
I spent most of the day (about 5-6 hours) on Sunday March 23rd fixing up my Capstone paper by adjusting the tense from present tense to past tense and then inserting my narrative. I also corrected any recommended corrections to my paper from our Research course. On Monday, March 24th I finished the E-version of my Capstone and submitted it for review. THANK GOD!
Capstone Entry 5
I spent about 2-3 hours during the weekend of March 15th-16th writing a narrative about my results and making visually appealing bar graphs to present my data. I then finished up on Monday March 17th and submitted my narrative for review.
Capstone Entry 4
Well I gave my posttest on Wednesday February 26th as planned, and the results were AWESOME! My experimental group scored an average of 85% while my control group only scored an average of 78%. This is especially significant since both groups scored 49% on their pre-test. I can't say that I'm surprised that my intervention worked, but I certainly am happy that it did.

Capstone Final Course Entry 3
On Sunday February 23rd, I updated my posttest by changing the numbers in many of my pretest questions. I plan to give my posttest on Wednesday February 26th after I have completed all of the instruction on Dimensional Analysis and Converting Units and Rates. I would have actually given the posttest on Tuesday, but we have a high school play to attend that day.
Capstone Final Course Entry 2
On Wednesday February 12th I spent about two hours updating and debugging my second UDUTU module. I then had my wife (also a certified teacher) look over my first and second UDUTU module. She did not find any mistakes, so on Thursday February 13th I assigned my first UDUTU module (Multiplying Fractions) for my experimental group to complete by Monday February 17th. On the weekend of February 15th and 16th I spent about 2 hours on Saturday and 8 hours on Sunday completing my third, and most extensive, UDUTU module. I also created a Proprof quiz to assign at the end of the third module. On Monday February 17th I assigned my second UDUTU module and quiz to my experimental group and I scheduled it to be due on Wednesday February 19th.
As per my discussion with Amy, on Monday February 17th I gave my third UDUTU module to fellow math teachers to have them complete before assigning it to my experimental group. One of the teachers that I assigned module 3 to immediately noticed that two of the videos in module 3 were not set to the correct dimensions. I immediately fixed this mistake. I then assigned module 3 to my advanced class and asked them to complete it and report any errors back to me as a 5 point bonus assignment. On Tuesday, after many students in my advanced class completed module 3, no students reported correctable errors.
On Wednesday February 19th, I assigned module 3 (Converting Units & Rates) to my experimental group and I scheduled it to be due on Friday February 21st.
Capstone Final Course Entry 1
On the weekend of February 8th and 9th I spent about 8 hours Saturday and 8 hours Sunday putting together the first two online UDUTU modules for my intervention. I had started before these dates, but I did not complete nearly as much as I had hoped over Winter Break. It took me a long time to lay out everything on UDUTU and the modules were still not entirely how I wanted them, especially the second one. I knew the second module had some bugs that needed to be worked out. I also spent this weekend building two Proprofs quizzes to finish off Module 1 and Module 2.
